A two-vehicle collision on Tuesday in Deaf Smith County injured five Hereford drivers. The accident occurred at around 2:10 p.m. when a 2004 Ford F150 was pulling out of a private driveway onto U.S. Highway 60 west of Hereford. The pickup failed to yield right of way and a 2002 Nissan Altima heading west struck the driver’s side of the pickup. A 15-year-old Lyford High School athlete was killed Monday night in an ATV accident east of Lyford. Eight girls were riding a 2012 Polaris Ranger Crew 500 all-terrain vehicle when apparently its right tires hit a patch of mud and caused it to rollover. Gabriela "Gaby" Rivera died from her injuries sustained in the accident. Another 15-year-old girl was in critical condition. State troopers reported that the other seven girls have already been treated and released for their injuries. It was reported the girls had been working on a float for the homecoming weekend. A 15-year-old boy was killed in a one-vehicle accident on Highway 271 in Red River County Saturday morning. The fatal accident happened 10:35 a.m. on US 271, one-half mile north of CR 1410 in Red River County. A northbound 2001 Ford F-150 driven by Yovani Bonilla Ugalde, 21, of Cookville, Texas, was towing a 2006 shop-built semi-trailer. A 4-year-old girl is still undergoing medical treatment in San Antonio Monday after being shot by accident in the eye last Thursday at her home in Hidalgo County. Roxanna Garcia, 4, was shot with a BB gun, allegedly by accident, by her own cousin. The bb is behind the cone of the young girl’s eye. Roxanna’s mother and family are having a tough decision of removing the bb or leaving it in. Removing it would lose her eye. A Cleburne man remained in critical condition as of Monday after a motorcycle accident last Sunday. Laken Cole Souser, 26, was heading west on a Suzuki motorcycle at about 7:50 p.m. near the intersection of Westmeadow and West Henderson streets. According to witnesses, Souser was doing a wheelie down the roadway at the time. Souser’s bike was travelling at an undetermined speed when it collided with a Chevrolet 1500 as it turned from Westmeadow Drive onto West Henderson Street. A highway worker was hit by an 18-wheeler as he worked along Interstate 35 in Lacy Lakeview early Tuesday morning. At around 2:10 a.m. Tuesday, Manuel Rivas, 42, of Houston, was working on the highway near mile marker 342 when an 18-wheeler heading north struck him. Other site workers said the driver of a brown Ford dually pickup pulled alongside the truck-tractor and tried to get the driver’s attention so he would stop, but failed to do so. A two-car collision in U.S. Highway 281 on a rainy Sunday afternoon claimed the lives of a mother and her 8-year-old son. Sheryl Evans, 39, was travelling south in the 2600 block of South Water in a 2004 Hyundai car when she lost control after hydroplaning. A head-on crash near the Bossier-Webster parish line killed a Doyline teen and injured two others. At about 4:30 p.m. Sunday, a 1999 Dodge Caravan was heading east on LA Highway 164 when it crossed the center line and struck a 2006 Hyundai Elantra. The impact killed 15-year-old Matthew Kirkheart, a passenger of the Dodge Caravan. He sustained fatal injuries during the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
