A pilot in a low-flying helicopter was killed in a crash in rural south Louisiana just before noon Wednesday.

Hugh Clifton Kelley, 66, of Beaumont, Texas, was flying his Bell 206 helicopter to Louisiana for routine maintenance and was travelling back to Beaumont when the crash happened.

The four-seat aircraft was flying low and crashed into a wire attached to a radio tower on a farm land near Crowley. Kelley was the only person on board of the helicopter during the accident.

There were no injuries on the ground.

The tower appeared stable after the crash but authorities have to determine whether it was safe.

Officials say the helicopter was registered to Pintail Lodge of Beaumont.

The FAA and NTSB are investigating the crash.
