A drunk driver caused an accident on Interstate 20 and hit a police car.
At 1:45 a.m. June 1st, the APD received several complaints of a Dodge pickup going the wrong way on Interstate 20. Just a few minutes later, an accident occurred near the 285 mile marker on Interstate 20, where a Jeep Cherokee had flipped over. The Jeep’s driver, Zayn Wendell Quinlan, swerved and lost control in an attempt to avoid the reckless driver. Quinlan, who was in critical condition, had to be pulled out from the vehicle by the Abilene Fire Department and was sent to the Hendrick Medical Center.
According to a witness, the driver turned around and went back near the accident where he hit a police car, causing minor damage. He backed up and started to escape as another police vehicle approached. The mayhem ended when the drunken driver was eventually caught by an officer in the 800 block of East Stamford Street.
The driver, Chase Brandon Clower, 21, failed the standardized field sobriety test and was arrested for driving while intoxicated.
