A man was struck and killed by a truck Thursday night on Abilene street.
The victim, identified as 32-year-old Zachery Joseph Melton of Abilene, was pronounced dead at the scene near the 400 block of Sayles Blvd at 6:55 p.m.
In a police report, Melton was wearing dark-colored clothing while walking on Sayles Boulevard when a northbound brown 1986 Chevrolet struck him.
The driver, Gabriel Borrego, 71, of Abilene, said he did not see the pedestrian prior to the accident. Borrego was not injured.
“Alcohol was present at the scene, but at this time, it is unknown if alcohol was a contributing factor in the collision,” the report said. “Blood samples were taken from Mr. Borrego and Mr. Melton.”
The investigation continues on the accident.
No criminal charges have been filed pending further investigation.
