An SUV crashed in Henderson Sunday night leaving two Kilgore ISD students dead and three other people injured.
The two students who were killed were identified as eighth grader Liradone Bojkaj, 14, and junior Mergimtare Bojkaj, 17, both of Kilgore.
The sisters were riding an SUV with their brother and two others when the crash happened at about 10 p.m. three miles north of Henderson on U.S. 259.
DPS said the driver, Hava Shala, 33, was driving northbound when he swerved to miss something in the road. The vehicle skidded into a grass median and rolled over several times.
Mergimtare and her 19-year-old brother Murteza Bojkaj, who were both in the backseat, were thrown out of the vehicle.
Liradone immediately died in the wreck. Mergimtare was taken to a Tyler hospital, where she later died. Murteza is in a Tyler Hospital in critical condition.
Shala, and passenger Bennie Shala, 37, both from Kilgore, were sent to a hospital. Their conditions are unknown.
“We’re deeply saddened when we received the word this morning that we lost two students in an auto accident last night. Our hearts and thoughts are with the family during this grave loss,” said Superintendent Dennis Williams.
Grief counselors are at both schools, and other counselors are available to talk to students if needed.
