A two-car collision in U.S. Highway 281 on a rainy Sunday afternoon claimed the lives of a mother and her 8-year-old son.
Sheryl Evans, 39, was travelling south in the 2600 block of South Water in a 2004 Hyundai car when she lost control after hydroplaning. She veered onto the northbound lane and an oncoming vehicle t-boned her driver’s side door.
Evans and her 8-year-old son were instantly killed in the collision. The boy’s name has not been released as of Sunday night.
The passenger and driver of the other car, identified as Larry and Sarah Stewart from Troy, Texas, were being treated at the Seton Highlands Hospital.
Slippery roads are blamed for the fatal accident.
Investigation of the accident is still ongoing.
