A teenager was fatally struck while walking in Atascosa County by a car whose driver fled early Sunday.
Samantha Garza, 18, was attending a Halloween party Saturday night dressed as Batman when she was walking on FM 476 near Adcock Road and got hit by a Pontiac G6 which then fled the scene.
Department of Public Safety Trooper Jeffrey Denman said a passer-by on the poorly lit road spotted Garza’s body and called 911. There were no witnesses to the hit-and-run.
Garza was pronounced dead at the scene at around 4 a.m. Sunday.
The victim recently graduated from Southside High School in May. She was set to begin work as a bank teller at IBC Bank this week. It was days before her 19th birthday when the accident happened.
DPS is still investigating the incident and is trying to determine the reason why Garza left the party.
Denman is asking anyone with information on the vehicle to call Atascosa County’s DPS office at 830-769-9345.
