A woman is dead and a man critically injured following a single vehicle roll-over crash near Woodsboro in Refugio County early Saturday morning.
At about 6 a.m., David Noel Leal 22, of Karnes City, and passenger Roxanna Leal, 24, of Beeville, was driving a 2009 Toyota Camry travelling west on FM 2441, about one mile west of Woodsboro.
According to the DPS report, David was traveling at a high rate of speed through a slight curve to the right and lost control of the vehicle. He left the road on the left side of the highway.
He then re-entered the roadway, crossing both lanes of traffic and again went off the roadway on the right side.
Authorities said the vehicle entered into a ditch and hit the embankment of a culvert, sending the car airborne, rolling end-to-end at least twice, before coming to rest upright.
Roxanna, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:27 by Justice of the Peace Emi Riemenschneider. Her body was taken to Moore’s Funeral Home in Refugio.
David was wearing a seatbelt and was pinned inside the vehicle until rescuers freed him. He was transported to CHRISTUS Spohn Memorial Hospital in Corpus Christi by HALO-Flight air ambulance. His condition was listed as critical but stable with head trauma.
