A head-on crash in Karnes County left one woman dead and five people, including two children, injured.
The crash happened at about 1:50 a.m. Sunday when an SUV heading north on Texas 239 drove onto the southbound lane, for an unknown reason, and struck a Ford pickup carrying five people.
One of the pickup’s passengers, 68-year-old Ofelia Cruz Cortez, was pronounced dead on the scene of the crash.
Both drivers and the occupants of the pickup were taken to University Hospital for treatment of their injuries.
The driver of the pickup, 33-year-old Irene Cortez, sustained critical injuries to her head and chest. Also injured in the crash were Ramiro Vega, 39; Jennifer Vega, 5; and Megan Vega, 7, all from Kenedy.
Bradley Segeren, 51, of Karnes City, who was behind the wheel of the SUV, suffered head and chest injuries and was listed in serious condition.
According to DPS, all six people were not wearing seat belts.
