A rollover accident in Parmer County, about 85 miles northwest of Lubbock, on Saturday killed an Austin teenager and injured five other people.
Jordan Simms, 14, of Round Rock, was a passenger in an SUV Saturday morning when the driver fell asleep and drove into the median of U.S. Highway 70. The driver lost control of the vehicle when trying to recover and it rolled over multiple times before landing on its top, said the Department of Public Safety.
Simms was ejected from the vehicle. It was reported that he was the only one not wearing a seatbelt.
The other victims involved in the accident were not identified. The driver was taken to Muleshoe Medical Center and was released. The other four passengers were hospitalized in stable condition.
