A road accident on Cobbler Road near Carrollton Wednesday night left four men injured.
The fatal wreck happened on Cobbler Road in Washington Township at around 6:20 a.m.
Juan A. Lugo, 28, of Roma, Texas, was driving a 2008 GMC 3500 one-ton truck loaded with welding equipment. He drove his truck left-of-center and struck an approaching pickup driven by 24-year-old Jacob V. Arquilla of 8073 Satin Road NE, Mechanicstown, with his father Jacob Arquilla, 53, as passenger.
Another passenger in the pickup, 46-year-old Gerardo Becerra of Forest Hill, Texas, was said to have been ejected from the impact.
Jacob Arquilla and Becerra were both transported to Akron General Hospital. Jacob Arquilla remained in serious condition while Becerra’s condition was unknown.
The drivers of the two vehicles were taken to Aultman Hospital in Canton for treatment.
Trooper Jeff Brindley of the Ohio Highway Patrol post in New Philadelphia said road conditions were clear and speed was not a factor. He added that all four men were not wearing seatbelts.
Cobbler Road was not accessible to traffic while Emergency response personnel remained on scene for more than 2 hours. Responding to the scene were Carrollton Village, Carroll County and Fox Township fire departments, four emergency squads, Life Stat and Med Flight helicopters, three highway patrol officers and sheriff’s deputies.
Trooper Brindley said investigation is ongoing.
