Three teenagers were involved in a deadly car crash in Hallsville Tuesday that killed a 16-year old male Hallsville High School student and injured two others.

Texas Department of Public Safety troopers said the fatal accident occurred at around 5:00 p.m. when Samuel Ellis, 17, was driving a SUV with his 2 passengers down the road in Hallsville.  They were westbound down willow road, just south of Highway 80, when their vehicle lost control and crashed into a tree.

Ellis and passenger 17-year old Austin Urbelis were taken to Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview for injuries sustained in the wreck. Ellis is in fair condition, Urbelis still in critical. The other passenger, and the youngest of the three, Alejandro Olvera, 16, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Olvera, known to his friends as Alex, would’ve started his junior year at Hallsville High School in just couple of weeks.

“Alex was a very liked young man, great sense of humor, will be dearly missed by not only his classmates but by teachers and staff here at this high school,” said High School principal John Martin.

The loss of Alex — his young life remembered Wednesday in his community.

DPS is still investigating the cause of the crash.
