An El Paso police officer has been killed after he was struck while trying to remove a ladder in a chain-reaction traffic accident on Interstate 10.
Officer Angel Garcia, 27, was outside of his patrol car with the lights flashing early Sunday as he tried to pull a ladder from the road when four vehicles crashed into each other in what police said to be a chain-reaction. The police car was involved in the accident and the officer was hit and killed.
Garcia was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Two other victims in an SUV sustained non-life threatening injuries.
Garcia joined the force last March. Funeral services are pending.
