A two-vehicle collision on Tuesday in Deaf Smith County injured five Hereford drivers.
The accident occurred at around 2:10 p.m. when a 2004 Ford F150 was pulling out of a private driveway onto U.S. Highway 60 west of Hereford. The pickup failed to yield right of way and a 2002 Nissan Altima heading west struck the driver’s side of the pickup.
The Department of Public Safety troopers said the truck, driven by Antonio Madrid, 30, was sent into the median facing northeast. The car stopped facing south in the inside lane of westbound traffic.
Madrid was airlifted to the University Medical Center in Lubbock, together with the Altima’s driver, Diana Flores, 20, and front passenger, Guadalupe Chaparro, 47.
Flores and Chaparro sustained incapacitating injuries.
Two other passengers in the back of the car, Dale Dennis Guerrero, 29, and Rosalinda Rodriguez-Salazar, 48, were taken by ambulance to Hereford Regional Medical Center. Both were reportedly not wearing seatbelts.
Authorities said speed and alcohol were not factors of the accident.
