A high-speed pursuit through Lubbock ended in a three-vehicle accident at the intersection of 82nd Street and Quaker Avenue Wednesday afternoon.
The incident started when a DPS trooper tried to pull over a gray Dodge pickup on south U.S. 87. The driver, 27-year-old Damon Barraza Jr., refused to stop and the trooper chased after the truck.
The truck turned onto Woodrow Road and two of the three occupants, Fred Andrada and Casey Chambers of Lubbock, fled on foot. Lubbock-Cooper ISD police assisted DPS in capturing the pair, and at 3:05 p.m. the suspects were apprehended.
The chase continued on to 82nd Street and Quaker Avenue, where he slammed into two SUVs.
Barraza’s eastbound pickup hit the SUVs which were heading north on Quaker.
A shot was fired through the roof of the truck after the collision.
A handgun was found at the scene.
DPS is uncertain if anyone was injured in the accident.
Barraza was arrested and charged with felon in possession of a handgun, evading arrest or detention with a motor vehicle, resisting arrest and failure to stop and render aid.
Chambers and Andrada were not charged and were released, DPS said.
North and south traffic was temporarily blocked on Quaker Avenue as Lubbock police and Department of Public Safety troopers investigate the wreck.
