A rollover crash early Sunday morning on Interstate-40 in Wheeler County left one man dead and another person injured.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the driver of a 2001 Ford Expedition, Cleophus Nash, 56, of Amarillo, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
The single vehicle crash happened at about 3:20 a.m. when Nash was driving the SUV with Van Lee Johnson, 53, of Amarillo. They were heading west on I-40 when the vehicle crossed into the median and returned to the westbound lane. He overcorrected and the vehicle skid back into the median before it overturned.
The SUV landed upright and Nash was ejected from the vehicle.
The incident report said Nash was not wearing a seatbelt while Johnson did wear a seatbelt.
Johnson was treated and released from the Shamrock General Hospital.
