Munir Niazi Dies in Fatal Crash in Hurst

One man was killed Monday morning after he crashed his car into a light pole in Hurst. Hurst police Sgt. Craig Teague said the deadly accident happened just before 4:30 a.m. on Mid Cities Boulevard near Grapevine Highway. The driver, 57-year-old Munir Niazi of Bedford, was pinned inside the vehicle for over an hour before being rescued. The pole nearly split the vehicle from bumper to bumper. Niazi was flown to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth where he died a few moments later. Teague said the accident caused a power failure. The crash remains under investigation.

Navy Crewman William McIlvaine Killed in Jet Crash

Three Navy crew members, including one from El Paso, were killed in a plane crash during a training flight Monday morning in Eastern Washington. The aircrew members were identified by the Navy as Lt. j.g. Valerie Delaney, 26, from Ellicott City, Md.; Lt. j.g. William McIlvaine, 24, from El Paso; and Lt. Cmdr. Alan Patterson, 34, from Tullahoma, Tenn. Delaney was a naval aviator and McIIvaine and Patterson were naval flight officers. Catherine Gutierrez Killed in Downtown Collision

A bystander was killed after an SUV hit her in downtown San Antonio early Sunday morning. The accident occurred when a truck ran a red light on West Travis street and struck an SUV traveling on St. Mary's street. The SUV was pushed into the sidewalk and hit Catherine Gutierrez, 36, who was standing on the sidewalk. She was rushed to San Antonio Military Medical Center, where she later died from her injuries. Police said alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

John McSwain Killed in I-45 Crash

One motorcyclist is dead Sunday following a head-on crash near Interstate 45. At around 3am, a car was in the northbound lane when it swerved into the center lane and crashed head-on into a southbound motorcycle. The Texas Department of Public Safety said the motorcyclist, 42-year-old John McSwain of Spring, was thrown from his motorcycle and was instantly killed in the crash. The car driver, Jennifer Lopez Harden, 35, of Spring, and her passenger sustained minor injuries and were transported to a hospital. The incident remains under investigation.

A Goodfellow Air Force Base airman was killed in a fatal crash in San Angelo Saturday night. Marine Sgt. A motorcyclist was killed when he crashed his bike and plunged from an elevated roadway on U.S. Route 281 in San Antonio early Friday.
