A Victoria man died Monday morning in a fiery crash involving a pickup and an 18-wheeler on state Highway 185 in Calhoun County.
Bobby Cantu, 33, was driving a 2011 Chevrolet pickup heading east on the highway when it veered into the westbound lane and crashed with a 2000 Peterbilt 18-wheeler hauling a tank trailer. The pickup burst into flames.
The two vehicles collided on the shoulder and ended up in the westbound lane, the Texas Department of Public Safety said.
Calhoun County Justice of the Peace James Duckett pronounced Cantu dead at the scene.
The tractor-trailer driver, Jason Lawson, 42, was transported to Citizens Medical Center, where he was treated and released.
Investigators said heavy fog may be a factor in the deadly crash.
