A man was charged with driving while intoxicated after his vehicle was struck by a freight train Saturday night in Midland.
The crash happened at about 5:38 p.m. near the intersection of North Carver Street and East Industrial Avenue.
Benjamin Oakes, 60, of Midland was driving his pickup heading north on Carver Street and went through the crossing arms. He then stopped at the railroad tracks and an eastbound train slammed into the front end of the pickup.
Oakes suffered minor injuries and was transported to Midland Memorial Hospital.
A witness said the emergency bells did not sound at the time of the crash.
The emergency crossing post was severely damaged after the crash.
The accident remains under investigation.
