A Volkswagen Jetta and a Dodge truck were racing on Grande early Sunday morning and this resulted in an accident that injured two people.
At about 1:15 am, Tyler Police responded to a major accident at 1500 W Grande. Two vehicles were racing onto the eastbound lanes when they were unable to make the turn as they entered a curve and crashed into the edge.
The Dodge truck’s driver was subsequently ejected from the vehicle when it rolled over and ended up on top of his legs. The driver, 28-year-old Daniel Dodd, was sent to EMTC for injuries from the wreck. He was not wearing a seatbelt.
The Jetta remained right side up. The driver of the Jetta, Luiz Barajas, 23, was arrested and charged with DWI 2nd, Accident involving Serious Bodily Injury, and Racing. His passenger was taken to the ETMC.
Charges are pending for Dodd as investigation continues.
