A 33-year-old man died in Wednesday night’s crash on Interstate 10 near Medical Drive.
The fatal wreck happened at about 11:21 p.m. when a Toyota Tundra traveling east on Interstate 10 tried to pass a Ford pickup but clipped it and hit a concrete barrier to the right. The Tundra then careened across the freeway and into the concrete barrier on the left.
The Tundra’s driver, Abel Garza Jr., was not wearing a seatbelt and was instantly killed in the accident.
Larry Joe Cerda, 44, the Ford’s driver, was uninjured.
Authorities said speeding and unsafe lane change were factors that led to the crash.
