Mireya Ortega In Critical Condition From ATV Accident

Another teen involved in the ATV rollover accident on Monday that killed 15-year-old Lyford High School athlete, Gabriela “Gaby” Rivera, remains in critical condition Thursday.

Fifteen-year-old Mireya Ortega was one of the eight girls riding a 2012 Polaris Ranger Crew 500 all-terrain vehicle that rolled over. The ATV landed on top of Ortega after it flipped.

The teen’s injuries were extensive.

“Everything is working – her body is functioning pretty good, the only thing is they’re having trouble with the brain,” said Maria Ortega, the teen’s aunt.

“Maybe it was the lack of oxygen by the time the ambulance got there or (by the time) they took-off whatever was on top of her.”

The family remains positive about Mireya’s recovery.
