The Texas Department of Public Safety has confirmed one fatality in a rollover accident in Mathis Thursday evening.
The deadly wreck occurred after 11 p.m. on Interstate 37 one mile south of Mathis.
A northbound 2004 Pontiac Sunfire veered into the median, over corrected, and went into a skid. The car rolled over and landed on its top.
The 20-year-old driver, Holt Thomas Smith of Corpus Christi, was pronounced dead on the scene. He was wearing a seatbelt.
No other injuries were reported. Weather conditions were dry and clear with some clouds, DPS said.
The cause of the wreck is still under investigation.
