DPS trooper Injured in Wreck in Upshur County

A Department of Public Safety trooper was injured after his car was T-boned in Upshur County Friday morning.

On Highway 271 about five miles south of Gilmer, trooper Drew Nipp attempted to do a U-turn in pursuit of another vehicle for a traffic violation when a truck from behind struck the patrol car’s side door.

Trooper Nipp was taken to a Longview hospital with minor injuries. The pick-up truck driver, 64-year-old Donna Young of Gilmer, was sent to ETMC in Gilmer with non-life threatening injuries.

No charges have been filed. Authorities continue investigation on the collision.
