A motorcycle crash in Taylor County Thursday morning claimed the life of a 27-year-old member of the 7th Logistics Readiness Squadron at Dyess Air Force Base.

The accident occurred when a 2008 Toyota Camry heading east on County Road 314 allegedly pulled out in front of a motorcycle, driven by Stephen Caswell Freethy, 27, of Abilene, Texas, travelling north on Farm Market 707. The motorcycle and the car collided, ejecting Freethy.

Freethy was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:42 a.m. He was wearing a helmet. He was on his way to work at the base.

Sheryl Ashby McClendon, 55, of Abilene, the driver of the car, was taken to Abilene Regional Medical Center for a non-life threatening head injury.

According to police, wet roads and foggy weather are contributing factors in the deadly accident.
