Two people have died in a fiery crash Tuesday just north of the Canadian bridge on Highway 287.

The Potter County Fire Department responded to the scene of the accident at about 11:12 a.m. and found a pickup fully engulfed in flames.

Department of Public Safety officials said a 2011 Ford Mustang was traveling south in the northbound lane of U.S. Highway 287 when it slammed head on with a 2002 Chevrolet pickup heading north in the northbound lane.

The Chevrolet caught on fire and firefighters extinguished the flames.

The two drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. They were identified as Melissa A. Flores, 36, of Dumas, the driver of the Mustang and Andrew Jared Swope, 27, of Amarillo, the pickup’s driver.

DPS is still investigating the crash.
