A man died after crashing his motorcycle and then being run over by a pickup in rural Upshur County Sunday night.

The crash occurred at 7:15 p.m. on Farm-to-Market Road 726 between the intersections of Texas Highway 154 and Farm-to-Market Road 1650 (near Glenwood community).

Maxwell Kyle Hardin, 35, of Hallsville, was riding a 1999 Honda Shadow motorcycle with Donna Rene Miller, 36, of Hallsville, traveling south on FM 726 when Hardin swerved the bike to miss a deer.

Hardin lost control and ran into a ditch on the right side of the road. The two riders were thrown off the motorcycle.

Hardin was in the southbound lane when a white pickup heading south overran him. The pickup stopped shortly but continued southward on FM 726.

The two victims were not wearing helmets.

Hardin was transported by ambulance to East Texas Medical Center-Gilmer where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 8:35 p.m. by Justice of the Peace W.V. Ray.

Miller was taken to Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview with possible head injuries, but was expected to recover.

Authorities do not know whether it was the motorcycle crash, or the pickup that killed Hardin, DPS said.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the Tyler DPS office at 903-939-6000 or the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office at 903-843-2541.
