A man was dead after a three vehicle wreck two miles north of Refugio on Tuesday afternoon.

A maroon Ford F-150 was northbound on U.S. Highway 77 when it pulled up in front of two vehicles and hit the brakes. A semi-trailer following behind was able to stop but the third vehicle, a Dodge 2500 pickup driven by a Leon Dale Buff, 51, of Corpus Christi, wasn’t able to stop.

Senior Cpl. Charlie Ramirez said Buff struck the semi’s right rear and landed in the ditch near a telephone post.

He died in the collision.

The driver of the Ford pick-up, Donald Terrell Starr, fled the scene. The Texas Department of Public Safety found him that evening at his home in Woodsboro.

He was charged with failure to stop and render aid, a third degree felony.
