A pilot and two other passengers were killed Tuesday night after the aircraft they were flying in crashed in west Jackson.

According to the airport authority, a Piper PA-32 Cherokee took off from Hawkins Field Airport just after 5 p.m. A few moments later, the pilot, John Tilton, requested permission from air traffic control to return to the airport.

The plane was unable to return and crashed into a house on Marcus L. Butler Drive in west Jackson.

Tilton and his passengers WC Young and David Williams all died in the crash.

Homeowner Loretta Jamison escaped from the wreck through a window and suffered minor burns.

The victims were headed to Raymond for a Federal Aviation Administration safety meeting.

The cause of the crash is unknown at this stage.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.
