A rollover accident in West Texas on Monday left one Mesquite teenager dead and four others injured.

The fatal accident happened at about 2:30 p.m. Monday on U.S. Highway 84 near Roscoe, just west of Sweetwater.

Five students from Horn High School were returning from a weekend visit to Texas Tech University when the driver of the Volvo station wagon they were riding in overcorrected causing the vehicle to flip over. Three passengers in the back were ejected. One of them was senior high school student Sigfrid Credo.

Credo and another victim were airlifted to the hospital. Credo later died from injuries sustained in the crash.

The other victims were identified as Credo’s twin brother, Roald Credo, along with Travis Tarlton, Brandon Stewart and Scott Hiney.

Roald Credo was transported to Baylor Hospital in Dallas for surgery of a broken arm. According to a family member of one of the students, Tarlton suffered a fractured hip, Stewart a broken wrist, and Hiney had a head laceration.

A Mesquite ISD official said all five were popular students. Sigfrid Credo was a drum major for the Horn band and also participated in drama. He was hoping to attend college at Texas Tech University after graduation.

Students at Horn gathered Wednesday morning at the school flagpole to remember him.
