One man is critically injured following a motorcycle accident in east Amarillo Wednesday morning.

Police say Douglas Allen King, 55, was driving a red 2012 Harley Davidson motorcycle heading north in the 2300 block of S. Ross street, near the U.S. Post Office, at about 7:30 a.m. when the accident occurred.

A blue 2000 Chevrolet pickup, driven by George Edward Owen Jr. , 56, of Amarillo, pulled out in front of the motorcyclist. King braked to avoid the truck, skidded and fell to the pavement, sliding about 150 feet before coming to a stop.

The motorcycle did not hit the pickup.

King, who was not wearing a helmet, sustained life-threatening injuries in the fall and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The traffic investigation squad is looking into the crash.

No charges have been filed at this time.
