A well-respected Midland County rodeo bullfighter is critically injured after a tragic accident at a bull riding memorial in Lufkin Saturday night.

The 27-year-old bullfighter, Cody Hollums, is still in a coma Tuesday at the East Texas Medical Center Hospital in Tyler.

The incident happened when a rider was thrown off a bull and Hollums rushed in to protect him.

The bull started spinning around, hitting Hollums in the chest, and knocked him to the ground.

One of the bull’s legs kicked Hollums on the side of his head.

Hollums was instantly transported to a Lufkin hospital and was later airlifted to a Tyler hospital.

On Monday morning, Hollums reportedly responded to some commands and his family is holding out hope.

The young rodeo bullfighter lives in Midland but he has a family in Greenwood. He has been working with the championship bull riding circuit for five years.
