Two people on board a small plane died in a plane crash Saturday afternoon in a remote area between Llano and Burnet.

Texas Department of Public Safety officials say the plane that originated from Kerrville crashed around 3:30 Saturday afternoon a few miles east of the City of Llano off Highway 29 & Ranch Road 2241, approximately 5 driving miles from the Llano Municipal Airport.

Officials say only two men were on board the single-engine plane. The pilot, Bobby Luker Jr., 51, of Bertram, and the passenger, Scott Belt, 60, of Kerrville, were both killed in the wreck.

Belt was the owner and instructor of a flight school in Kerrville, Learn 2 Fly. Belt is a flight instructor for Luker, who was participating in flight training.

The plane was doing touch and go landings out of the Llano Municipal Airport and its last communication was at 11 a.m. when the two men may have stopped in the area for lower priced gas. Llano County Airport managers said they were heading back to Kerrville when their plane went down.

Around 3:30 p.m., another aircraft, a Grumman AA1, located the crashed plane in a nearby private field. The victim’s bodies were retrieved from the crash site on Saturday.

Federal Aviation Administration officials who are taking over the investigation say, the aircraft was not in contact with their controllers but that is normal procedure with these types of aircraft.

Officials are continuing the investigation of the cause of the crash.
