A 19-year-old Reagan High School Graduate died after his car crashed into a light pole in the Stone Oak area Wednesday night.

It was 6 a.m. on Sonterra Boulevard at Sigma Road when Andres Cabrera Cordero was apparently speeding east and his car clipped another vehicle. He swerved left across the road and then right as he overcorrected, veering toward a fire hydrant.

His Ford Focus struck the hydrant and hit a light pole on the driver’s side. The front of the car was crushed and it flipped onto its left side.

Cabrera was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was heading to class at San Antonio College when the fatal wreck happened.

Cabrera was born in Cancún, Mexico, but had been a student in San Antonio for some time, attending Reagan all four years of high school, where he was active in football, wrestling and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes organization.

A vigil was held at the Reagan High School football field at the night of the accident where over 500 people gathered to remember Cabrera’s life.
